Day 1: September 28, 1878 (Saturday)

All delegates are present, except David Terry and six others, two of whom are deceased. Governor Irwin is temporarily presiding. Delegate Thomas Morris submits his resignation. The Convention decides to adjourn until 11 a.m. Monday, but this motion (by Dudley) is opposed with some vigor by Beerstetcher, Hager, and others, and also Herrington, who makes a little scene. Convention adjourns.
